Short

Andrew Ludtke is the Founder and Executive Director of the Red Deer Community for Jazz Music, an incorporated non-profit he founded in 2022 in Red Deer, Alberta. It has since created over 100 paying jobs for musicians. He plays the Berglund NuEVI and produces the television series Behind the Scene: Live Jazz in Red Deer.

Long

Andrew Ludtke was born in Red Deer and is a Humber College graduate with over twenty years in the music industry. He has studied and performed with Pat LaBarbera, Kirk MacDonald, Al Kay, Phil Nimmons, Don Thompson and Rob McConnell, and with visiting artists including Chris Potter, Kurt Elling, Randy Brecker, Peter Appleyard, Mike Stern and Terence Blanchard. In Alberta he has played with Blue Moon Marquee, Twisted Lobby, Flatiron Big Band, The Vintage, the SwingTime AllStars, the RDC Big Band and Symphonic Winds, and the Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra.

A neck injury ended his career as a trombonist in 2021. He founded the Red Deer Community for Jazz Music the following year — before he knew whether he would perform again — and returned to the stage in November 2024 on the Berglund NuEVI, an electronic wind instrument, in the first feature concert ever performed on the instrument.

He leads the Andrew Ludtke Quartet, which has played sold-out shows at The Velvet Olive and at the Red Deer Arts Council's 50th Anniversary. He films and produces Behind the Scene: Live Jazz in Red Deer for TELUS STORYHIVE Voices, funded in 2024 and again in 2025. His debut single, Black Orpheus, is on YouTube and Spotify.
